Each cell shows the payment and, underneath, the balance left. The CSV has the payment, interest and balance for every debt, every month.

An estimate, not financial advice. Interest is worked out monthly at one twelfth of each yearly rate, and rates, minimums and fees are assumed not to change. Credit cards often charge daily interest and recalculate the minimum as the balance falls, so your statements will differ a little.

      About this tool

When you owe money in several places, the order you pay them off matters. This planner takes each debt’s balance, yearly interest rate and minimum payment, plus whatever extra you can find each month, and works through every month until the last one is gone. You get a debt-free date, the total interest, and the order your debts disappear.

It runs three strategies at once and lays them side by side. Avalanche sends the extra to the highest interest rate first, which always costs the least. Snowball sends it to the smallest balance first, so whole debts vanish sooner and you feel the progress. My order follows your own list, which you can rearrange with the arrows. Each one is also measured against paying only the minimums, so you can see the months and money the extra saves. When a debt is cleared, its minimum rolls on to the next target.

A chart shows every balance falling, and the month-by-month schedule lists each payment and what is left. Download it as a CSV for a spreadsheet. If a minimum payment does not even cover the interest, the planner warns you straight away. Your debts are saved in this browser only, never uploaded, and one button clears them.

How to use Debt Payoff Planner

      1. Under “Your debts”, type each debt’s name, balance, interest rate (APR) and minimum a month. Press “Add a debt” for more.
      2. Pick your currency from the list beside the heading if it isn’t right.
      3. Type the extra you can pay each month, on top of the minimums.
      4. Choose Avalanche, Snowball or My order, and read your debt-free date and the side-by-side comparison.
      5. Explore the chart, open “Show every month”, or press “Download CSV”. Press “Clear my debts” to wipe them from this browser.
      Example

Take two debts: 100 at 12% with a 60 minimum, and 90 at 0% with a 10 minimum, plus 30 extra. Avalanche clears both in 2 months for 1.11 of interest. Snowball also takes 2 months but pays 1.41, because the first month’s extra goes to the 0% debt while the 12% one keeps charging interest.

      Tips and good to know

      • Avalanche is cheapest on paper. If you need quick wins to stay motivated, compare the snowball row: the gap is often smaller than people expect.
      • Put any 0% or promotional debt in with its real rate, and remember to change it when the offer ends.
      • If a warning says a minimum doesn’t cover the interest, that debt needs extra money first or a call to the lender.
      • Even a small extra each month makes a big difference. Try 50 more and watch the date move.
      • Use the CSV to track progress: compare each month’s real statement with the planned balance.

      Frequently asked questions

      Are my debts uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Your list is saved only in this browser’s local storage so it is here next time, and “Clear my debts” deletes it.

Is it free? Are there any limits?

Yes, it is free with no sign-up. You can add up to 20 debts, and plans run for up to 50 years.

Does it work on a phone or offline?

Yes. It works in Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android and any modern desktop browser. Once loaded it needs no connection, and the tables scroll sideways on small screens.

Snowball or avalanche: which is better?

Avalanche always pays the least interest. Snowball clears your smallest debts first, which many people find easier to stick with. The comparison table shows the exact difference for your debts, so you can decide.

How is the interest worked out?

Each month, each balance grows by one twelfth of its yearly rate, rounded to the cent. Then every minimum is paid, and the rest of your monthly budget goes to the target debt.

Why does a debt say it never goes down?

Its minimum payment is no bigger than the interest added each month, so paying only the minimum leaves the balance the same or growing. Extra money, or a lower rate, is the only way out.

      Is this financial advice?

No. It is an estimate for planning. Real lenders may charge daily interest, fees or a minimum that changes with the balance, so statements will differ slightly.
