About this tool
This random number generator picks numbers between any two values you choose. Ask for one number between 1 and 100, six different numbers from 1 to 45, or five thousand decimals between 0 and 1. You can also roll up to twenty dice at once or flip up to a hundred coins.
People use it to draw raffle tickets, choose who goes first, pick a student to answer, make test data, settle a bet, or play a board game when the dice have gone missing.
What makes it different is how the numbers are made. Many generators use a quick maths formula that only looks random. Ours uses your browser’s secure random generator, the same source that makes encryption keys, and it avoids “modulo bias”, a common slip that makes some numbers come up slightly more often than others. Every number in your range has exactly the same chance. Everything happens on your device: nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no sign-up.
How to use Random Number Generator
- Choose “Numbers”, “Dice” or “Coin” at the top.
- For numbers, type the lowest value in “From” and the highest in “To”. Both ends can come up.
- Set “How many”, and pick decimal places if you want decimals. Tick “No repeats” so the same number can’t appear twice, and choose an order if you want them sorted.
- Press “Generate” (it says “Roll” for dice and “Flip” for coins), or press Enter in any box.
- Press “Copy” to copy the results, separated by commas, new lines or spaces.
From 1, To 45, How many 6, No repeats ticked, Order “Smallest first” gives six different numbers such as 3, 11, 19, 27, 38, 44, with their sum and average shown underneath.
Features
- Any range, including negative numbers, such as −50 to 50. Both the lowest and highest values can be picked.
- Whole numbers, or decimals with 1 to 6 decimal places. With two decimal places from 0 to 1, each of the 101 values from 0.00 to 1.00 is equally likely.
- Up to 10,000 numbers in one go, with sum and average shown.
- “No repeats” draws without replacement, like pulling numbers out of a hat. It works even on huge ranges such as 1 to 1,000,000,000 without slowing down.
- Sort the results smallest first or largest first, or keep them in the order they were drawn.
- Dice mode: 1 to 20 dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 or 100 sides, with the total added up. Coin mode: 1 to 100 coins with heads and tails counted.
- Quick picks for common jobs: 1–10, 1–100, six numbers from 1–45, a two-decimal number from 0 to 1, or a four-digit code.
- Your last ten results are listed under “Earlier results” until you leave the page.
Tips and good to know
- If you ask for more different numbers than the range holds, such as 12 numbers from 1 to 10 with no repeats, the tool says so plainly instead of quietly repeating some.
- If “From” is bigger than “To”, you’ll get a message asking you to swap them, rather than a guess at what you meant.
- For a fair raffle, number the tickets, set the range to match and tick “No repeats”, then draw as many winners as you need in one press.
- Decimals come back with exactly the places you chose, so 0.50 stays 0.50 when you paste it into a spreadsheet.
- For drawing names rather than numbers, Spin the Wheel is the friendlier way to do it.
Frequently asked questions
Are the numbers really random and fair?
Yes. They come from your browser’s cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), and values that would favour some results are thrown away and redrawn. Every number in your range has exactly the same chance, every time.
Is anything sent to a server? Is it free?
Nothing is sent anywhere. The numbers are made on your own device, and your choices are not saved after you leave. It is free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many times you use it.
Does it work on my phone, iPhone or offline?
Yes, it works in Safari, Chrome and other phone browsers, and the number boxes bring up a number keyboard. You need the internet to open the page, but once it has loaded the numbers are made on your phone.
How do I pick numbers with no repeats?
Tick “No repeats”. Each number can then come up only once, like drawing balls from a barrel. You can ask for as many as the range holds: up to 10 from 1 to 10, which simply shuffles them.
Can it make random decimals?
Yes. Choose 1 to 6 decimal places. The tool then picks from every value at that spacing between your two numbers, so with one decimal place from 1 to 2 you get one of 1.0, 1.1 and so on up to 2.0.
Is there a limit on how many numbers I can make?
You can make up to 10,000 numbers at once, and the range can be as wide as about nine thousand million million. Very wide ranges with many decimal places are refused with a clear message, because they can’t be handled exactly.
Can I use it for a lottery or a prize draw?
You can use it to draw winners for a raffle or a classroom prize. It can’t predict or improve your chances in a real lottery: every draw there is random too, so no generator can help you win.
