About this tool

Add Text to Image lets you write words on top of a photo or graphic. Use it for a classic meme with white outlined letters, a caption on a holiday snap, a price on a product shot, a label on a screenshot, or a quick announcement for a group chat.

You can place up to eight separate pieces of text on one picture. Each one has its own font, size, colour, outline, shadow, box and angle, and you move it by dragging it with a mouse or a finger.

Your picture stays on your device. The text is drawn by your own browser, and nothing is uploaded. The saved image keeps the full size of the original, not a shrunk preview, and there is no watermark or account.

How to use Add Text to Image

  1. Tap “Choose an image”, drag a picture onto the box, or paste one.
  2. Change “Your text here” in the Text box to your own words. Press Enter for a new line.
  3. Pick a font, size and colour. Turn Bold, Italic, Outline, Shadow or Box behind on or off.
  4. Drag the text on the picture, or use the Top, Middle and Bottom buttons. Tilt it with the Turn slider. Press “+ Add text” or Duplicate for another block, and tap any block on the picture to choose it.
  5. Press “Save image”, then “Download image”.

ExampleA 4000 × 3000 phone photo with “WHEN THE WI-FI COMES BACK” across the top saves as a 4000 × 3000 JPG called photo-text.jpg, with the letters as sharp as the photo.

Tips and good to know

  • For a readable meme, keep white text with a black outline. The outline stops the words vanishing on light parts of the photo.
  • On a busy photo, turn on Box behind instead. It gives the words a calm background.
  • Every font comes with the site, so your text looks the same on every phone and computer. A font only downloads the first time you pick it.
  • Making a series? Press “Another image” and your text blocks carry over to the new picture.
  • Text can’t be curved, and there is no sticker picker. Emoji typed from your keyboard may show, depending on your device’s fonts.
  • Pictures over 16 megapixels are turned away. Resize them first, then come back.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser draws the text onto the picture on your own device. The image is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else.

Is it free? Are there any limits?

It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. You can add up to 8 text blocks to one picture, and pictures can be up to 16 megapixels.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Choose a photo from your gallery, type your words, and drag them with your finger. The page needs the internet to open, but the editing happens on your phone.

Can I make a meme with it?

Yes. It starts in meme style: white, bold Anton letters with a black outline near the top. Add a second block for the bottom line and you are done.

Will my image lose quality?

The text is drawn at the full original size. PNG stays lossless. JPG and WebP are saved again at 92% quality, which is hard to tell apart from the original.

Can I add more than one line of text?

Yes. Press Enter in the Text box for a new line, and long lines wrap on their own. For text in a different spot or style, press “+ Add text”.

What format is the saved picture?

Usually the same as the one you opened. HEIC and AVIF photos are saved as JPG; GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG and ICO as PNG. In Safari a WebP may be saved as PNG. A JPG gets white behind any see-through areas.

Is the location from my photo kept?

No. Hidden camera details, called EXIF, including the place a photo was taken, are not copied into the saved image.
