About this tool

Crop Image trims a picture down to the part you want. Drag a box over the photo, or pick a shape such as a square for Instagram or 16:9 for a video thumbnail, and save just that area as a new file.

It suits anyone tidying up a photo: cutting a stranger out of the edge of a holiday shot, framing a product for an online shop, making a square profile picture, or fitting a screenshot to a slide. If a form asks for an image of a set width and height in pixels, you can type those numbers straight in.

The crop is measured in the picture’s own pixels, not in the smaller copy you see on screen. So when the bar says 1080 × 1080, the saved file is exactly 1080 × 1080. Everything happens inside your browser: your photo is never uploaded, there is no account, no watermark and no daily limit.

How to use Crop Image

  1. Tap “Choose an image”, drag a file onto the box, or paste one. A card shows its name, pixel size and file size.
  2. Pick a “Shape”, or leave it on “Any” to crop freely.
  3. Drag inside the crop box to move it, and drag the round handles to resize it. Or type exact numbers into “Size”.
  4. Optional: choose a format under “Save as”.
  5. Press “Crop image”, check the preview, then press “Download image”.

ExampleA 4032 × 3024 phone photo set to 1:1, with the size typed as 1080, becomes a 1080 × 1080 square saved as photo-cropped.jpg.

Features

  • Opens JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone photos) in any modern browser, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF (first frame), SVG and ICO. Camera RAW files are not supported.
  • Shapes: Any, Original (the photo’s own shape), 1:1, 4:5, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9 and 9:16.
  • Eight handles for free cropping. With a fixed shape, only the four corners show and the box keeps its shape.
  • Type the width and height in pixels. With a fixed shape, the height follows the width.
  • A rule-of-thirds grid inside the box helps you line up the shot, and the area being cut away is darkened.
  • Works with a mouse, a finger or a pen. With a keyboard, focus the box and use the arrow keys to move it 1 pixel, or 10 with Shift held.
  • Save as the same format, JPG, PNG or WebP.
  • Phone photos stored sideways show and save the right way up.

Tips and good to know

  • “Select all” sets the box back to the whole picture, or the biggest box that fits the shape you picked.
  • Choosing a shape fills the biggest box of that shape it can, so you only need to slide it into place.
  • PNG keeps every pixel exactly. JPG and WebP are saved at 92% quality, which looks the same to the eye but is not perfectly identical.
  • With “Same as original”, HEIC and AVIF photos are saved as JPG, and GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG and ICO as PNG.
  • Safari cannot save WebP. If you are on an iPhone or a Mac using Safari, pick JPG or PNG.
  • This tool crops to rectangles only. It does not rotate, straighten or cut circles.
  • EXIF — the hidden camera details inside a photo, including location — is not copied into the cropped file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The cropping is done by your browser on your own device. Your photo is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else.

Is it free? Are there any limits?

Yes, it is completely free, with no sign-up and no watermark. You crop one image at a time, as often as you like.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Choose a photo from your gallery or files, drag the box with your finger, then crop and download. The page needs the internet to open, but the cropping happens on your phone.

How do I crop a photo to a square for Instagram?

Set “Shape” to 1:1. The box becomes the biggest square that fits, and you drag it to the part you want. For a taller Instagram post, use 4:5. Type 1080 into the width if you want the exact size Instagram uses.

Will cropping lose quality?

The pixels you keep are not shrunk or stretched. Saving as PNG keeps them exactly. JPG and WebP are re-saved at 92% quality, which can change a little detail, but it is very hard to see.

Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?

Yes. Type the width and height into the “Size” boxes. The bar shows how much you keep, for example “Keep 1080 × 1080 px of 4032 × 3024”, and the saved file matches it exactly.

Can I make the cropped image smaller in pixels too?

Cropping only cuts away edges, it never resizes. After you download, use Resize Image to scale the picture down, or Compress Image to make the file lighter.
