About this tool

Most Word to PDF converters upload your document to a server, convert it there and send a PDF back. This one never sends your file anywhere. It reads the .docx inside your browser, lays every page out with its own layout engine and writes the PDF on your device, so contracts, CVs, school work and anything confidential stay with you.

It understands the parts of a Word document people actually use: styles, headings, fonts, colours and highlights; alignment, indents and spacing; bullet and numbered lists; tables with borders, shading, merged cells and repeating header rows; pictures; sections with their own page size, margins, headers and footers; page numbers, footnotes and links. A table of contents jumps to its headings with the right page numbers, and every heading becomes a PDF bookmark.

Microsoft’s fonts can’t be shipped with a website, so Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, Cambria and the rest are drawn with open-licence look-alikes (a sans, a narrow sans for Calibri, a serif and a monospace), each set to the original font’s width so lines and pages break close to where Word breaks them. Only the letters you use are embedded, which keeps the PDF small, and the text stays real text you can search and copy.

How to use Word to PDF

  1. Tap “Choose Word files” or drop one or more .docx files onto the box.
  2. Each file converts straight away; the list shows its page count when it’s done.
  3. Check the preview: page through with the arrows, tap a thumbnail, or zoom in to read the small print.
  4. Optional: under Page size pick A4 or US Letter instead of the document’s own size.
  5. Press “Download PDF” — or “Download all” for a ZIP when you converted several.
Example

A 14-page tender response with a contents page, a pricing table over two pages and a “Page 3 of 14” footer: the PDF keeps the contents links, repeats the table’s header row and lists each section as a bookmark.

Features

  • Styles, headings, fonts, sizes, colours, highlights, bold, italic, underline, strike-through, superscript and small caps.
  • Alignment, indents, line and paragraph spacing, tab stops with dot leaders, paragraph borders and shading.
  • Bullet and numbered lists, multi-level numbering and restarts.
  • Tables: column widths, borders, shading, merged cells, vertical alignment, repeating header rows, rows split over pages.
  • Pictures (PNG, JPG, and GIF/BMP/WebP converted on the fly).
  • Sections with their own page size, orientation and margins; manual page breaks; different first page and even-page headers.
  • Headers and footers with page numbers (“Page 2 of 9”), footnotes and endnotes.
  • Clickable web links, working internal links and contents pages, and PDF bookmarks from headings.
  • Several documents at once, downloaded one by one or together as a ZIP. No upload, sign-up or watermark.

Tips and good to know

  • The layout is close to Word’s, not pixel-identical: a line may break one word earlier or later, which can move a page break. Check the preview before sending anything official.
  • Text boxes are shown as ordinary text after their paragraph, equations as plain text, and floating pictures in line with the text. Charts, SmartArt, drawn shapes and WordArt are left out. The note under the preview lists what your file had, and newspaper-style columns come out as one column.
  • Old .doc files (Word 97–2003) and password-protected documents can’t be read here: open them in Word and use Save As → .docx without a password first.
  • Right-to-left scripts (Arabic, Hebrew) and Chinese, Japanese or Korean text aren’t supported by the bundled fonts yet. Latin, Greek and Cyrillic alphabets are.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Word document uploaded to a server?

No. The document is read, laid out and turned into a PDF inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so private and confidential files stay private.

Is it free? Are there limits?

It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. You can convert up to 30 documents in one go, and there is no page limit — very long documents with many large pictures are limited only by your device’s memory.

Does it work on an iPhone, Android or offline?

Yes. It works in Safari and Chrome on phones and tablets as well as on computers. Once the page has loaded, converting needs no internet connection: the fonts are fetched from this site the first time they are needed.

Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

Very close, but not pixel-identical. Our own layout engine follows Word’s rules for spacing, lists, tables and page breaks, and the fonts are open look-alikes set to the same widths, so most pages break in the same place. Unusual features are simplified, and the note under the preview lists anything that was.

Which fonts does the PDF use?

Microsoft’s fonts can’t be included in a website, so each font in your document is matched to one of four open-licence families: a sans (Arial, Helvetica, Verdana), a narrower sans (Calibri), a serif (Times New Roman, Cambria, Georgia) and a monospace (Courier New, Consolas). Only the letters used are embedded, and the text stays searchable.

Do links and the table of contents still work?

Yes. Web links open in the browser, links to places in the document jump there, a contents page shows the real page numbers of its headings, and every heading appears as a bookmark in your PDF reader’s side panel.

Can it convert .doc, .odt or .rtf files?

Not directly — it reads .docx, the format Word has used since 2007. Open the file in Word, Pages, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save or download it as .docx, then convert that.
