About this tool
Merge Videos joins two to twenty clips into a single video. Add clips from your phone or computer, drag them into the order you want (or use the arrow buttons), and trim the start and end of each one on its own filmstrip. A preview plays any clip, or all of them in order, inside the shape your video will have.
Clips don’t have to match. A vertical phone video, a landscape screen recording and a square clip can all go into one file: choose the output size (match the first clip, 1080p, 720p, square, 4:5 or 9:16), then fit each clip with bars in a colour you pick, or fill the frame and crop the edges. Add a crossfade between clips, keep the sound or mute it, and the result is saved as an MP4.
When every clip was recorded the same way, as happens with clips from one camera or one phone, the tool joins them by copying the original frames, with no re-encoding: the quality is untouched and it takes seconds. It tells you which way it will join before you start, and why. Nothing is uploaded; your browser does all the work.
How to use Merge Videos
- Tap “Choose videos” and pick two or more clips, or drop them on the box. Use “Add more videos” for more, up to 20.
- Put the clips in order: drag the grip on the left of a clip, or use the up and down arrows. Tap the eye to preview one clip, or press “Play all in order”.
- Trim a clip by dragging the bright handles on its filmstrip.
- Choose the output size, “Fit (bars)” or “Fill (crop)”, a straight cut or a crossfade, and whether to keep the sound.
- Press “Join videos” (fast join) or “Merge videos” (re-encode), watch the result, then press “Download video”.
Three holiday clips: a landscape 1080p video, a vertical phone clip and a short square clip. Pick “1080p”, leave “Fit (bars)” on black and choose a 1-second crossfade. The result is one landscape video where the vertical clip sits in the middle with black bars, and each clip melts into the next.
Features
- Join 2 to 20 clips of any size and most formats your browser can read: MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV.
- Reorder by dragging, with the arrow buttons, or with the up and down keys on a clip’s grip.
- Per-clip trimming on a filmstrip, with handles you can drag or nudge with the arrow keys (Shift for whole seconds).
- Six output sizes: match the first clip, 1080p, 720p, square, 4:5 and 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok.
- Fit with coloured bars, or fill the frame and crop, so mixed shapes still look tidy.
- Optional crossfade of 0.5 to 2 seconds, for the picture and a smooth blend of the sound.
- Fast join that copies matching clips without re-encoding, and says when it can and can’t be used.
- Clips without sound are filled with silence, so picture and sound stay in step.
- A preview that plays each clip, or all of them in order, in the output shape.
Tips and good to know
- Clips straight from the same phone or camera usually qualify for the fast join. Leave the size on “Match first” and choose a straight cut to keep it.
- For social media, “9:16” with “Fill (crop)” fills a phone screen edge to edge; “Fit (bars)” keeps the whole picture.
- A short crossfade (0.5 to 1 second) hides small jumps between clips without slowing the story down.
- Re-encoding takes roughly as long as the video plays, often less. Keep the tab open, and plug in a phone for long jobs.
Frequently asked questions
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the clips, joins them and makes the new file on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so private videos stay private.
Is it free, and are there limits?
It’s free, with no watermark and no sign-up. You can join up to 20 clips at a time. The real limit is your device’s memory: an hour of 4K may be too much for a phone, while a few minutes of 1080p is fine almost anywhere.
What is the fast join?
When every clip uses the same video format, size and sound settings, the tool copies their frames one after another instead of re-encoding them. The quality stays exactly the same and it takes seconds. It can’t be used with a crossfade, a new size, or a clip trimmed at the start, because those need new frames.
Can I join clips of different sizes and shapes?
Yes. Pick an output size, then choose “Fit (bars)” to show each whole clip with bars in your chosen colour, or “Fill (crop)” to fill the frame and trim the edges.
What format is the joined video?
An MP4 with H.264 picture and AAC sound, which plays almost everywhere. In browsers that can’t create MP4 (Firefox, for example) it is saved as a WebM instead. A fast join keeps the clips’ own format.
Does it work on a phone, and offline?
Yes, in an up-to-date Chrome, Safari or Edge on iPhone, iPad and Android, and on computers. Once the page has loaded it doesn’t need the internet to join clips. Long, high-resolution videos are quicker on a computer.
What happens to the sound?
With “Keep sound” each clip keeps its sound, joined in the same order and blended during a crossfade. Clips without sound get silence for their length. “Mute” saves the video with no sound at all.
