    About this tool

Compress Video makes video files smaller so they fit where you need them: a chat app, an email, a form with an upload limit, or just a fuller phone. Add one video or a whole batch, pick how small you want them, and the tool re-encodes each one on your device with settings worked out from that video’s own length, frame rate and resolution.

There are three presets — Smallest, Balanced and High quality — and a “Fit a size limit” mode with ready-made limits for WhatsApp (16 MB), Discord (20 MB) and email (20 MB), or any size you type. In that mode the tool shares the budget between picture and sound, picks a resolution that will still look decent, and if a try lands over the limit it tries again a little smaller, up to three times. Videos already under the limit are left alone.

A batch is done one video at a time, so a phone doesn’t run out of memory, with progress for each. Download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

It is honest about what it saves. You see the estimate first, the real before and after sizes afterwards, and a quality check that shows the same frame from the original and the compressed copy side by side with a line you can drag.

Nothing is uploaded. Your browser’s own video encoder does the work, so private recordings never leave your device.

    How to use Compress Video

    1. Tap “Choose videos” or drop one or more videos onto the box. Each gets a row with its length, resolution, size and estimated new size.
    2. Pick a goal: Smallest, Balanced or High quality — or “Fit a size limit” and choose WhatsApp, Discord, Email or Custom.
    3. Optionally choose a Resolution. Automatic suits the goal; Keep original never changes it.
    4. Press “Compress video” (or “Compress 3 videos”). Each row shows its progress, and the bar has a Stop button.
    5. Press Preview on a row to play it and drag the line in the quality check, then press Download on a row or “Download all (ZIP)”.
    Example

Three 1080p clips from a birthday need to go on WhatsApp. Add all three, choose “Fit a size limit” and WhatsApp: each comes out just under 16 MB, at 720p or lower, ready to send as normal videos rather than documents.

    Features

    • Batch compressing: add several videos, done one after another with progress per video.
    • Size-limit presets for WhatsApp (16 MB), Discord (20 MB, the free limit since August 2026) and email (20 MB), plus any custom size.
    • Up to three tries to land under a limit; with Resolution on Automatic, the last try also steps down one size.
    • Presets worked out from each video: bitrate is set per pixel and frame, and never above a share of what the original already uses.
    • Quality check: the same frame from the original and the compressed copy, split by a draggable line, with a moment slider and 2× zoom.
    • Download one at a time or all together as a ZIP.
    • Saves MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound) where the browser can write it; otherwise WebM (VP9, Opus), and says which first.
    • Before and after sizes, percentage saved and in-page playback of each result.

    Tips and good to know

    • Lowering the resolution saves far more than lowering quality at the same size. For phones and chat apps, 720p is plenty.
    • Use the quality check’s zoom on faces and text: that is where compression shows first.
    • Firefox can’t write AAC sound, so there it may save WebM, unless the original sound is already AAC (most phone videos).
    • Busy footage — rain, confetti, grainy low light — needs more space. If a video stays over a limit, trim it first.
    • Compressing an already compressed video twice loses quality each time. Start from the original where you can.

    Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser compresses the video on your own device using its built-in video encoder. The files never leave your computer or phone.

Is it free? Is there a size or number limit?

Yes, it is free with no sign-up and no watermark. There is no fixed size or number of videos; the practical limit is your device’s memory, so very large videos work best on a computer.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and offline?

It works in up-to-date Chrome on Android and in Safari on iPhone and iPad with iOS 16.4 or later. The page needs the internet to open, but the compressing happens on your device.

How do I make a video small enough for WhatsApp or Discord?

Choose “Fit a size limit”, then WhatsApp (16 MB) or Discord (20 MB). The tool plans each video to land just under. These limits were checked in October 2026; apps change them now and then, so use Custom if yours differs.

Can I compress several videos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; they are compressed one after another with the same settings. Download each from its row, or all together as a ZIP.

    Will compressing reduce the quality?

Some, because the video is re-encoded with fewer bits. Balanced is hard to tell apart from the original on a phone. Use the quality check to compare the same frame before you download.

Why did I get a WebM file instead of MP4?

Your browser can’t write MP4 video with sound here (Firefox has no AAC encoder, for example). WebM plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Android and recent Safari. For an MP4, use Chrome, Edge or Safari.
