About this tool
Trim Video cuts a video down to what matters. Pick a video from your phone or computer, drag the two bright handles along the filmstrip (or type exact times), play the chosen part to check it, and save it as a new file.
“Keep one part” saves a single clip from your start to your end. “Keep several parts” lets you add as many parts as you like, put them in any order with the arrow buttons, and joins them into one video. “Cut out parts” does the opposite: mark the bits you don’t want, such as a mistake in the middle of a talk, and everything else is joined back together.
For precise edits, step the preview one frame at a time with the frame buttons or the arrow keys. Your video never leaves your device: your own browser reads and cuts it.
There are two ways to cut. Fast copies the original frames into the new file without re-encoding, so the quality is identical and it takes seconds; the catch, which many tools don’t mention, is that each part can only begin on a keyframe, so it may start a moment early. Exact re-encodes the picture so every part starts and ends on the precise frame you chose.
How to use Trim Video
- Tap “Choose a video” or drop a video onto the box. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV all work.
- Pick what to do: “Keep one part”, “Keep several parts” or “Cut out parts”.
- Drag the handles to a part, or type times such as 0:12.5. Use “◀ 1 frame” and “1 frame ▶” (or the arrow keys on the picture) to find the exact frame, then “Set start here” or “Set end here”.
- For several parts, press “Add this part” for each one. Tap a part in the list to adjust it, and use the arrows to change the order.
- Leave “Fast · no quality loss” on, or pick “Exact frame · re-encode” for frame-perfect cuts.
- Press “Trim video”, “Join the parts” or “Cut out and join”, watch the result on the page, then press “Download video”.
A 20-minute talk with a five-minute technical hiccup in the middle: choose “Cut out parts”, mark 7:40 to 12:55, press “Add this part”, pick “Exact frame” and press “Cut out and join”. You get one 15-minute video with the hiccup gone.
Features
- Three modes: keep one part, keep several parts joined in the order you choose, or cut parts out of the middle.
- Parts list with times and lengths, move up and down, remove, and tap-to-edit; the parts show as coloured bands on the filmstrip.
- Frame stepping: frame buttons and arrow keys move one frame at the video’s own frame rate, Shift + arrow moves 1 second.
- Exact time fields that accept seconds (75), minutes and seconds (1:15) or hundredths (1:15.25).
- Fast cut copies the original video and sound with no re-encoding, so quality is untouched.
- The orange keyframe line shows where a single fast cut will really start.
- Exact cut re-encodes to MP4 (H.264), or WebM (VP9) in browsers that can’t write MP4, and keeps the sound in step across every join.
- Progress bar with time left and a Stop button; the result plays on the page before you download it.
Tips and good to know
- Use the fast cut whenever you can. It is quicker, and a re-encode always costs a little quality.
- When cutting out a mistake, use “Exact frame”: a fast cut restarts on a keyframe, so up to a second or two of the cut part can stay in.
- Phone videos in HEVC may show still frames instead of playing outside Safari and Chrome. The cut still works.
- Want a smaller file as well? Press “Make it smaller” afterwards to carry the clip straight into Compress Video.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads, cuts and joins the video on your own device. The file is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else.
Is it free? Are there limits?
Yes, free, with no sign-up and no watermark. There is no fixed length, size or number of parts; the limit is your device’s memory, so very large files work best on a computer.
Does it work on iPhone, Android and offline?
Yes on recent phones: iPhone and iPad with iOS 16.4 or later, and Android with an up-to-date Chrome. The page needs the internet to open, but the cutting happens on your device.
How do I cut a section out of the middle of a video?
Choose “Cut out parts”, mark the section with the handles and press “Add this part”. Add more sections if you like, then press “Cut out and join”. Pick “Exact frame” so the joins land on the frames you chose.
Can I join several clips from the same video?
Yes. Choose “Keep several parts”, add each part, put them in order with the arrow buttons and press “Join the parts”. They play one after another in that order.
Why does my fast cut start a little early?
Videos store a full picture (a keyframe) only every second or few, and the frames in between depend on it. A cut without re-encoding has to begin on a keyframe, so it starts at the one just before your chosen point. Choose “Exact frame” to start precisely.
What format is the trimmed video?
A fast cut keeps the original format, such as MP4, MOV or WebM. An exact cut is saved as MP4 with H.264 where your browser can write it, otherwise WebM with VP9; the page tells you which before you start.
