About this tool

Trim Audio cuts a recording down to what you need. Shorten a song for a ringtone or a video, take the “is this on?” off the start of a voice memo, cut a cough or an advert out of the middle of a podcast, or pull three answers out of an interview and join them into one clip.

Open a file and its waveform is drawn. Drag the handles or type exact times, then choose whether that selection is kept or deleted. Add more parts for several cuts at once; the joins are blended over 10 milliseconds by default so they never click, or crossfaded over up to a second. Fades come in four shapes, and “Snap cuts to zero crossings” nudges each cut to a silent point in the wave.

When you keep one part in the original format with no fade, the sound is copied rather than re-encoded, so nothing is lost. Save as MP3, M4A, OGG, WAV or FLAC, or as an iPhone ringtone (.m4r). Everything happens in your browser: no upload, no account and no watermark.

How to use Trim Audio

  1. Press “Choose a file” or drop an audio or video file on the box. The waveform fills in as the file is read.
  2. Drag the two handles, or type times such as 1:23.50 in the Start and End fields. Choose “Keep the selection” or “Delete the selection”.
  3. For more cuts, press “+ Add another part” and set it the same way; tap a part on the waveform or in the list to edit it, or × to remove it.
  4. Press “Play” to hear the part you are editing, or “Hear the result” to hear the finished cut, joins and fades included.
  5. Optional: add a fade and pick its shape, blend the joins, tick “Snap cuts to zero crossings”, and pick a format under “Save as”, including “iPhone ringtone (M4R)”.
  6. Press the button (“Trim to …” or “Cut out and save”), listen to the result on the page, and download it.
Example

A 3:20 MP3 trimmed from 0:42.00 to 1:12.00 comes out 30 seconds long as song-trimmed.mp3, copied untouched. Deleting 1:00.00 to 1:20.00 instead leaves 3:00, with a 10 ms blend at the join.

Features

  • Waveform with draggable handles that work with a mouse, a finger or the keyboard, plus exact Start and End fields.
  • Keep the selection, or delete it and join what is left.
  • Up to 12 parts at once, joined in time order, with a 10 ms to 1 second blend at each join.
  • Fade in and out from half a second to five seconds, shaped S-curve, linear, fast or slow.
  • Snap cuts to zero crossings (within 10 ms), so no cut clicks.
  • “Hear the result” plays the finished edit before you save it.
  • iPhone ringtone export (.m4r, AAC), with a warning past 30 seconds and a 40-second limit.
  • One part in the same format with no fade is copied without re-encoding; title, artist and cover art carry over.
  • Opens MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM, and the sound of MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos (to shorten the picture too, use Trim Video).

Tips and good to know

  • Start a cut just before the first sound, then add a 0.5 second fade in.
  • For music, end on a 2 or 3 second fade out with the “Fast” shape: it drops away quickly then tails off, which sounds natural.
  • When deleting from the middle of music, a 0.2 to 0.5 second blend hides the join; for speech the 10 ms default sounds cleanest.
  • A copy without re-encoding can only cut between the small frames the file is made of. Add a fade, snap, or choose WAV when it must be exact to the sample.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read, drawn, played and cut by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to AroraTools or to anyone else.

Is it free? Is there a length limit?

It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. There is no set length limit; the practical limit is your device’s memory, which only matters for very long recordings.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and offline?

Yes, in an up-to-date Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge, and the handles are big enough to drag with a thumb. You need the internet to open the page; trimming itself happens on your phone.

Will trimming lower the quality of my MP3?

Not if you keep “Same as original” and add no fade: the kept part is copied without re-encoding. Adding a fade or changing the format means the sound is encoded again at the quality you choose.

How exact is the cut?

When the sound is re-encoded (a fade, several parts, a new format) or saved as WAV, the cut is made on the exact sample. A same-format copy is cut at the nearest frame edge: within a few hundredths of a second for MP3, M4A and OGG, about a tenth for FLAC.

Can I cut several bits out at once?

Yes. Choose “Delete the selection”, then add a part for each bit to remove. Everything else is joined in order, with a short blend at each join.

Can I make an iPhone ringtone?

Yes. Keep up to 30 seconds (Apple’s iPhone guide, as of October 2026) and choose “iPhone ringtone (M4R)”, then add it with Finder or open it in GarageBand on the iPhone. For Android, save an MP3. Firefox can only make one from an AAC file kept as a single part with no fade.
