About this tool
This online notepad is a place for lists, drafts, phone numbers you need for ten minutes and ideas you don’t want to lose. Open the page and type: every change is saved automatically, and the next time you visit in the same browser your notes are waiting. Keep as many notes as you like in the list on the left, search across all of them, and pin the important ones to the top.
It is private in the simplest way: your notes are stored only in this browser on this device, never uploaded, never synced and never seen by us. That also means they live and die with the browser. Clearing your browsing data, using a private window or switching to another device leaves them behind, so the page reminds you to download a backup: one .txt file holding every note, which you can open here again to restore them all.
Useful tools sit above the page: find and replace with every match highlighted, a Format menu that sorts lines, removes duplicates, changes case or inserts the date, live word and character counts, bigger text, a monospace font and a focus mode that hides everything but the page.
How to use Online Notepad
- Start typing in the big box. The status line under it says “Saved in this browser” a moment after each change.
- Press “New note” for another note. Give it a name in the title line, or leave it blank to use the first line.
- Use “Search notes” to find any note, “Pin” to keep one at the top, and “Delete” to remove it (“Undo” brings it back).
- Open “Find & replace” or the “Format” menu to edit; both work on the selected text or the whole note.
- Press “Download a backup” now and then to save every note in one .txt file. “Open .txt” restores it or opens other text files.
Features
- Autosave as you type, with a status line showing that it saved and how much space your notes use.
- Unlimited notes with titles, search across titles and text, pinning, and delete with undo.
- Storage that grows with you: notes move to the browser’s larger IndexedDB storage if they outgrow the usual 5 MB space.
- Find and replace with every match highlighted, next and previous, match case, replace one or all.
- Format menu: UPPER, lower, Title and Sentence case, sort lines A to Z or Z to A, remove duplicate or empty lines, tidy spaces, bullet or number lines, insert the date or date and time. Ctrl+Z undoes each change.
- Live counts of words, characters and lines, reading time for longer notes, and counts for selected text.
- Download one note as .txt, every note as one backup file, open or drop .txt files as new notes, and print just the note.
- Adjustable text size, a monospace font, focus mode, and light and dark themes.
Tips and good to know
- Download a backup before clearing your browser, changing phones or reinstalling. The page shows when you last did.
- Notes in Chrome are not visible in Safari or Firefox, even on the same computer: each browser keeps its own private copy.
- If the same note is open in two tabs, the most recent change wins. Edit in one tab at a time to be safe.
- Ctrl+F (⌘F on a Mac) opens find and replace while you are in the notepad, and Escape closes it.
- Don’t keep passwords here. The notes are not encrypted, so anyone using this browser profile could read them.
Frequently asked questions
Are my notes uploaded or synced anywhere?
No. Notes are saved only in your browser’s own storage on this device. They are never sent to AroraTools or anyone else, and there is no account or sync.
Is it free? How much can I store?
It is free with no sign-up. You can keep as many notes as your browser allows: usually about 5 MB in normal storage, and much more once the notepad moves your notes to IndexedDB storage, which it does by itself.
Does it work on my phone, and offline?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and Firefox on phones, tablets and computers. Once the page has loaded you can keep writing without a connection, and your notes are saved on the device.
How do I get my notes onto another device?
Press “Download a backup” to save every note in one .txt file, move the file to the other device, open this page there and choose “Open .txt”. The notes are added next to any already there; nothing is replaced.
Can I lose my notes?
Yes, if the browser’s data is cleared: by clearing your history and site data, by a private window closing, by some clean-up apps, or very rarely by the browser freeing space. Regular backups are the safeguard.
Can I get a deleted note back?
Straight after deleting, press “Undo” in the bar at the bottom of the screen. Once that bar has gone the note is removed from this browser, so restore it from a backup if you have one.
