About this tool
Passport Photo Maker turns an ordinary photo of yourself into a passport or visa photo at the exact printed size a country asks for. Choose the document, add a photo taken against a plain wall, and line your face up with the guide: an orange line for the top of your head and a blue band where your chin must sit. That band is worked out from the official head-size range, so with your head touching the line and your chin inside the band, the head size is right.
Built in are the UK, US, Canadian, Australian, Indian and Chinese passport sizes and the Schengen visa size, each checked against the official guidance in October 2026, plus a custom size for anything else. You get a single photo at 300 or 600 dpi for online forms and printing, and a sheet of copies for a 6 × 4 inch print, a 15 × 10 cm print or an A4 page, with small cut marks around each one.
A booth or a shop charges every time. This costs nothing, has no watermark and runs in your browser, so a photo of your face is never uploaded anywhere.
How to use Passport Photo Maker
- Pick the document under “Photo for”, or “Custom size in mm…” if yours isn’t listed.
- Press “Choose a photo”. Use one taken straight on, against a plain light wall, with your shoulders in view.
- Drag the photo and use “Zoom” until the top of your head touches the orange line and your chin sits in the blue band. Use “Straighten” if your head is tilted.
- Choose a “Fill colour”, a “Print quality” and the paper for the “Print sheet”.
- Press “Make photo”, then “Download photo” for the single image and “Download print sheet” for the sheet.
A UK passport photo at 300 dpi is 413 × 531 pixels (35 × 45 mm), and a 6 × 4 inch print sheet holds eight copies.
Features
- Sizes for UK, US (2 × 2 in, passport and visa), Canada (50 × 70 mm), Australia, India and Schengen visas (35 × 45 mm) and China (33 × 48 mm), or any custom size from 15 to 100 mm.
- Alignment guide from each country’s chin-to-crown range, with a face outline and centre line. US photos also show the eye-height band.
- Move by dragging, zoom with the slider, a pinch or the scroll wheel, and straighten by up to 20° either way.
- Keyboard control: focus the photo, then arrow keys move it, + and − zoom, and [ and ] straighten.
- Single photo at 300 or 600 dpi, saved as a high-quality JPG with the resolution written into the file.
- Print sheets for 6 × 4 in, 15 × 10 cm and A4, filled with as many copies as fit and marked for cutting.
- White, off-white, light grey and pale blue fill for any space the photo doesn’t cover.
- Opens JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone), WebP, AVIF, TIFF and more, with a warning if the photo is too small to print sharply.
Tips and good to know
- Ask someone else to take the photo from about 1.5 metres away, at eye level, facing a window for soft, even light.
- This tool doesn’t swap the background, and a plain wall is always the safest choice. Some countries, including the UK, refuse photos changed by software, so only use Background Remover where edited backgrounds are allowed.
- Print the sheet at 100% or “actual size”. “Fit to page” shrinks the photos and they will be the wrong size.
- Ask a photo shop for a 6 × 4 inch print of the sheet. It is often cheaper than one booth session and gives you several copies.
- For online forms that want a set file size, the single photo can be shrunk with Compress Image to Size.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Your photo is placed, sized and saved by your browser on your own device. It is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else.
Is it free? Are there limits?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up or watermark. You can make as many photos and sheets as you like.
Can I use it on my phone, and offline?
Yes. Take a photo with your phone, open it here, and drag and pinch to line it up. After the page has loaded, the photo is made on your phone without needing a connection.
Will my photo definitely be accepted?
This tool gets the size and head position right, but it cannot judge everything. Lighting, shadows, expression, open eyes, glasses and the background are checked by the passport office. Read your country’s official photo guidance before printing.
What size is a UK passport photo?
A printed UK passport photo is 35 mm wide and 45 mm high, and your head, from chin to crown, must measure 29 to 34 mm. Choose “UK passport” and the guide shows that range.
What size is a US passport photo?
It is 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). The head must measure 1 to 1⅜ inches (25 to 35 mm) from chin to the top of the hair, and the eyes must be 1⅛ to 1⅜ inches (28 to 35 mm) from the bottom. The same size is used for US visas.
Can it remove the background or change my clothes?
No. Many passport offices, including the UK’s, reject photos altered by software, so this tool only resizes, moves and straightens. If your country does accept a replaced background, Background Remover can cut you out first and the fill colour then shows behind you.
