Your CV

Free, thanks to you. If this tool saved you time, a coffee helps keep it free.

About this tool

Resume / CV Builder turns what you type into a tidy, professional CV. Choose one of six templates we designed ourselves (Clean, Modern, Classic, Compact, Bold header and Minimal), pick the fonts and an accent colour, and the pages on the right update as you type. They break exactly where the PDF will, so there are no surprises after you download.

Many “free” CV sites ask for an account or a payment just as you try to download. This one doesn’t. The PDF holds real, selectable text in the fonts you picked, with clickable links, and the Word file is ready to edit.

Everything happens in your browser. Your CV is saved on this device as you go, and a backup file moves it to another computer. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use Resume / CV Builder

  1. Pick a template under “Template and look”, or press “Sample CV” to see a filled-in example first.
  2. Fill in “Personal details”, then each section: Profile, Experience, Education and Skills are there to start, and “Add a section” adds Projects, Certifications, Languages or your own.
  3. Reorder sections and entries by dragging the dotted handle, with the arrow buttons, or by focusing the handle and pressing the up and down arrow keys.
  4. Adjust the fonts, colour, paper size, margins, spacing and text size until it fits the pages you want.
  5. Press “Download PDF” to send it, or “Word (.docx)” to keep editing. On a phone, tap “Preview and download” first.
Example

The sample CV (three jobs, a project, two qualifications, eight skills, three languages) fills two A4 pages in Clean. In Compact with Small text, Tight spacing and Narrow margins it fits on one page.

Features

  • Six templates: five single-column layouts and one two-column layout with a tinted side panel.
  • Five bundled fonts (Onest, Montserrat, Lora, Playfair Display, Funnel Display), chosen separately for headings and text, ten accent colours plus any colour you like.
  • A4 or US Letter, three margin widths, three spacing settings and three text sizes.
  • Sections for profile, experience, education, skills (as a list or with five-dot levels), projects, certifications, languages, and as many of your own sections as you need.
  • Live preview that paginates like the PDF and never leaves a heading alone at the foot of a page.
  • PDF with selectable, searchable text and the fonts embedded (only the letters used, so files stay small, usually under 40 KB without a photo).
  • Word (.docx) download with real headings and bullet lists, plus a JSON backup you can open again later.
  • Optional photo, cropped to a square.

Tips and good to know

  • For online applications, use a single-column template. Applicant tracking systems (ATS, the software many employers use to read CVs) read single-column PDFs top to bottom in the order you see them. Modern stores its side panel first and then the main column, which most systems handle, but a strict one may mix the two.
  • Start each bullet point with what you did and end with a measurable result: “Rebuilt the onboarding emails, cutting support tickets by a third.”
  • Two pages is normal for experienced people in Australia and the UK; in the US one page is expected early in a career.
  • Leave the photo off unless the job ad asks for one or it’s the custom where you apply.
  • Your CV lives in this browser. Clearing site data or using a private window removes it, so press “Save backup” before switching devices or browsers.
  • Every font covers Latin-alphabet languages and most cover Cyrillic and Vietnamese. If a letter can’t be drawn, the page names it; the Word file keeps every character.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CV uploaded anywhere?

No. The preview, the PDF and the Word file are all made in your browser. Your CV is stored only in this browser on this device, so it’s there when you come back, and nothing is sent to us.

Is it really free? Do I need an account to download?

Yes, it’s free, with no account, no trial and no limit on downloads. Nothing is printed on your CV: the only mention of us is a note in the PDF and Word file properties saying the file was made with AroraTools.

Will an applicant tracking system be able to read it?

Yes. The PDF contains real text, not a picture, with headings, dates and bullet points in reading order. The five single-column templates are the safest choice for online forms; Modern keeps its side panel separate, which most systems read correctly.

Can I edit my CV in Word afterwards?

Yes. Download the Word (.docx) file and open it in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice. It uses one column with Arial or Georgia so it looks right on any computer; the colours and two-column design stay in the PDF.

How do I keep my CV on another computer or phone?

Press “Save backup” to download a small .json file, then on the other device open this page and choose “Open backup”. The file holds everything, including your photo.

Does it work on a phone, and offline?

Yes. On a phone the form comes first, and “Preview and download” opens the pages full screen. Once the page and your chosen fonts have loaded, it keeps working without a connection.

Should I call it a resume or a CV?

Both. In Australia, the UK and Europe “CV” is the usual word; in the US and Canada it is a “resume”, and a CV means a longer academic record. The layout and advice are the same.
