About this tool
Watermark PDF stamps text or a picture onto the pages of a PDF. Type a word such as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT, or choose your logo, then lay it corner to corner across each page, place it in one of nine spots, or repeat it as a tiled pattern that can’t simply be cropped away. Size, turn, colour and how see-through it is are all yours to set.
People use it to mark documents that are not final, to brand quotes and price lists, to discourage casual copying of portfolios and course notes, and to label copies sent to different people. Choose to stamp every page or only the ones you list.
Sizes are measured against each page, so a document mixing A4, letter and landscape pages gets a watermark that looks the same everywhere, upright even on turned pages. You see it live on a large preview and on every page thumbnail. The file is changed inside your browser and never uploaded, it is free, and there is no AroraTools mark added.
How to use Watermark PDF
- Tap “Choose a PDF” or drop your file onto the box. The first page shows in the preview.
- Under “Watermark”, keep Text and type your words (or tap a ready one such as DRAFT), or switch to “Image or logo” and choose a PNG or JPG.
- Under “Placement”, pick Diagonal, One spot or Tiled, and set the turn or spacing.
- Under “Look”, set the size and opacity and choose On top or Behind the content. Under “Pages”, keep Every page or type a list.
- Check the preview with ‹ and ›, press “Add watermark”, then “Download PDF”.
A 6-page quote for a client: type DRAFT, keep Diagonal at 60% size and 30% opacity in red, and save. Every page carries a faint red DRAFT from corner to corner while the prices stay readable.
Features
- Text watermarks in eight built-in PDF fonts and any colour.
- Picture watermarks from PNG (see-through backgrounds kept), JPG or WebP.
- Diagonal corner-to-corner layout that adapts to each page’s shape.
- Nine-position placement with any turn from −90° to 90°.
- Tiled pattern with adjustable spacing across the whole page.
- Size relative to each page, and opacity from 5% to 100%.
- On top of the content, or behind it so text stays crisp.
- Every page or only chosen pages, with a live preview of each.
- Stored once in the file however many pages show it, so the PDF stays small.
Tips and good to know
- “Behind the content” suits typed documents: the words sit on top of the watermark. On scans and photos the picture covers it completely, so use On top there.
- For a light, readable watermark, keep opacity between 15% and 35%.
- Phone photos are turned upright before use, so a logo shot on a phone won’t appear sideways.
- A watermark discourages copying but is not protection. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove it; add a password with Protect PDF if access matters.
- The built-in fonts cover Western European letters; other scripts show a warning and appear as “?”, so use a logo image for them.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The watermark is added by your browser on your own device, and neither the PDF nor your logo is sent anywhere.
Is it free? Any limits?
It is free with no sign-up, and AroraTools adds no mark of its own. There is no page limit beyond your device’s memory.
Does it work on a phone or offline?
Yes, in Safari and Chrome on phones and tablets, with the same preview. The page needs a connection to load, then the work happens on your device.
Can I put the watermark behind the text?
Yes. Choose “Behind the content” and it is drawn first, under the page. Text and drawings stay on top, but a scanned page or full-page photo hides it, so use On top for those.
Can I use my logo?
Yes. Switch to “Image or logo” and choose a PNG, JPG or WebP. Transparent PNG logos keep their see-through background.
Can the watermark be removed?
It becomes part of each page, so ordinary readers can’t switch it off, but a determined person with a PDF editor could remove it. Keep your clean original too.
