About this tool
Edit & Annotate PDF lets you change and mark up a document without printing it. Open a PDF and the first page appears large, with thumbnails beside it. Tap “Edit existing text” and every piece of the PDF’s own text gets a faint outline: tap one, type the correction and press Enter. The old words are covered in the page’s own colour and your text is drawn on top at the same spot and size, in the closest standard font.
Highlight, underline and strike-through snap to whole words, like selecting text. There are also text boxes, a pen, rectangles, ellipses, triangles, stars and clouds, solid, dashed or dotted lines and arrows, speech-bubble callouts, numbered markers, ticks, crosses, white-out, image stamps, sticky notes, clickable link areas and page cropping. Every mark stays editable until you save, with undo, redo and an eraser.
Saved marks are written into the page, so they look the same in every reader and print. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded.
How to use Edit & Annotate PDF
- Press “Choose a PDF” (or drop one on the box). The first page opens with thumbnails beside it.
- To correct a word, pick “Edit existing text”, tap the outlined text, type and press Enter.
- To mark text, pick Highlight, “Underline text” or “Strike through text” and drag from the first word to the last.
- Add anything else from the bar: shapes, “Callout bubble”, “Numbered marker”, “Link area”, “Crop page” and more. Change colour, thickness and line style in the panel.
- Press “Save annotated PDF”, then “Download annotated PDF”.
An invoice says $450 instead of $380. Tap the line with “Edit existing text”, change the figure and press Enter. Underline the due date, add a callout saying “Corrected 7 Oct”, drop numbered markers 1 and 2 beside two items, and save.
Features
- Edit existing text: covers the original in the matched paper colour and redraws your words at the same position and size, in Helvetica, Times or Courier, whichever is closest.
- Highlight, underline and strike-through that snap to whole words across several lines.
- Callout bubbles with a tail you can point anywhere, and numbered markers that count up by themselves.
- Rectangles, ellipses, triangles, stars and clouds, with an optional tint, plus solid, dashed or dotted lines.
- Link areas that open a web page, start an email or jump to another page of the PDF.
- Crop a page to the part you need, or crop every page the same way in one tap.
- Text boxes, pen, arrows, ticks, crosses, white-out, image stamps (including iPhone HEIC) and sticky notes.
- Eraser, 200 steps of undo and redo, zoom up to 800% and keyboard shortcuts.
Tips and good to know
- Edited text matches the original as closely as standard fonts allow. Unusual typefaces, letter spacing or very long replacements may look slightly different, so check the result.
- Edits, white-out and crops cover or hide things but don’t delete them: the old text is still inside the file. Never rely on them to hide passwords or account numbers.
- Scanned pages are pictures with no real text, so there is nothing to edit or snap to. Use White-out with a Text box on top instead.
- Shortcuts: V select, Y edit text, U underline, S strike, B callout, M marker, Q eraser, and Ctrl or ⌘ with Z to undo.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved entirely in your browser on your own device. It is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else.
Is it free? Are there limits on pages or file size?
It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no page limit set by the tool. Very large PDFs may take longer to save on an older phone.
Does it work on my phone, and offline?
Yes. Every tool works with touch in Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android. You need a connection to open the page, but editing and saving then work without one.
Can I change the existing text in the PDF?
Yes, with “Edit existing text”. The original words are covered with a box in the page’s colour and your new text is drawn in their place in the closest standard font. The original is still inside the file underneath, and pages that are scanned pictures have no editable text.
Does white-out redact the text underneath?
No. White-out and text edits draw over the content, but the original is still in the file and can be copied or searched. True redaction has to remove the content itself, which this tool does not do.
Will the links and crops work in other readers?
Yes. Link areas are saved as standard PDF links and crops as the page’s crop box, which Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome and phone readers all follow.
