About this tool

Blur & Pixelate Image hides the parts of a picture other people should not see. Draw a box, an oval or a free brush stroke over a face, a car number plate, a name on a parcel label, a bank balance in a screenshot or a child’s school badge, and choose how to hide it: a soft blur, chunky pixels, or a solid box that paints over it completely.

You can hide as many areas as you like, each with its own effect and strength, then move, resize or delete them. There is also a portrait-style mode that blurs the whole background and keeps one oval or box sharp, with a soft edge, which is handy for product photos or for keeping bystanders anonymous.

We are honest about the limits. A gentle blur, or large pixel blocks over short text and numbers, can sometimes be reversed or guessed, so for anything written, a solid box is the safe choice. Your picture never leaves your device, the saved file keeps its full resolution, and because it is redrawn from scratch, the hidden EXIF details (camera model, date and GPS location) are not carried over.

How to use Blur & Pixelate Image

  1. Tap “Choose an image”, drop a file, or paste a screenshot.
  2. Pick a shape under “Draw” (Box, Oval or Brush) and an “Effect” (Blur, Pixelate or Solid box).
  3. Drag across the picture over what you want to hide. Set “Strength”, or the box colour for Solid box.
  4. Tap an area to choose it, then drag to move it, pull a corner to resize, or press “Delete area”. Tick “Blur the whole picture” for a sharp focus area instead.
  5. Press “Save image”, then “Download image”.
Example

A 1170 × 2532 iPhone screenshot of a bank app: two Solid boxes over the account number and balance. Saved as PNG, still 1170 × 2532, with nothing readable underneath.

Features

  • Three ways to hide: Gaussian-style blur, pixelate (each block is the true average of its pixels), and solid box in any colour.
  • Draw rectangles, ovals or free brush strokes, with an adjustable brush size.
  • Unlimited areas, each with its own effect and strength; move, resize, delete and nudge with the arrow keys.
  • Whole-picture blur or pixelate with one sharp oval or box, and a soft-edge slider.
  • Areas are applied in order on top of each other, so a blur next to a solid box can never bring back what the box covered.
  • Undo and redo for every change, with ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z and ⇧⌘Z / Ctrl+Y.
  • Saves at the original resolution as the same format, JPG, PNG or WebP, with EXIF and GPS data left out.
  • Opens JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF, BMP, SVG and ICO.

Tips and good to know

  • For passwords, card numbers, addresses and anything else written, use Solid box. It replaces the pixels instead of smudging them.
  • If you blur a face, push Strength well past halfway and cover a little more than the face itself, including hair and ears.
  • Pixelate looks deliberate and is good for faces in a crowd; small blocks over large text can still be readable, so check the result zoomed in.
  • PNG is best for screenshots: text edges stay crisp and nothing smears. Photos are smaller as JPG.
  • Very large photos that are more than your browser can hold at once are scaled down to fit, and the tool tells you when that happens.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture is opened and edited by your browser on your own device. It is never sent to AroraTools or to anyone else.

Is it free, and are there limits?

It is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many areas or images you hide. You work on one image at a time.

Does it work on a phone, and offline?

Yes. On iPhone or Android, drag with your finger to draw areas and to move them. The page needs a connection to open, but the hiding happens on your phone.

Can someone un-blur my picture?

The saved file only contains the blurred pixels, not the original. Still, a light blur or coarse pixels over short text or numbers can sometimes be guessed or partly reconstructed. For text, use Solid box, which cannot be undone.

Does it remove the location and camera details?

Yes. Saving redraws the picture into a new file, so EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and the date taken is not included.

How do I blur the background but keep the person sharp?

Tick “Blur the whole picture”. A dotted oval appears: drag it over the person and pull its corners to fit. Use “Soft edge” for a gentle fade and “Background strength” for how blurry the rest gets.

Will the saved picture be smaller or lower quality?

It keeps the same width and height. PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP are saved at 92% quality, which looks the same to the eye.
