About this tool

Org Chart Maker draws who reports to whom. Each person gets a card with their name, job title and a photo or their initials, in a team colour you choose, and the chart arranges itself into neat rows. Pick one of six designs, from crisp Corporate cards to a glowing dark Midnight chart, and a ready palette of team colours. Build it card by card, or paste rows from a spreadsheet (name, job title, manager) to get the whole company at once.

It is made for office managers keeping a staff chart up to date, founders showing investors how the team is shaped, HR teams planning a restructure, and anyone who has fought with boxes and connectors in a slide program.

It all runs in your browser. Names, titles and photos stay on this device: nothing is uploaded, there is no account and nothing is watermarked.

How to use Org Chart Maker

  1. Start from the example team, or open “Build from a list or CSV”, paste your rows and press “Build chart from this text”.
  2. Tap a card to select it. Change the name, job title, manager, team colour, photo and assistant setting in the “Selected person” panel.
  3. Press “Add report” (Tab) for someone who reports to the selected person, or “Add peer” (Enter) for someone beside them, and type their name.
  4. Drag a card onto another person to change their manager. “Fold team” hides everyone under a manager and shows a count instead.
  5. Pick a “Design” (each shows a small live preview) and “Team colours”, a “Direction”, and whether “Compact” stacks people without reports in a column.
  6. Under “Save”, pick PNG, SVG or PDF (with a page size), or CSV to keep the list for a spreadsheet.
Example

Pasting “Name, Job title, Manager”, then “Ana Ruiz, Director,”, “Ben Ito, Team Lead, Ana Ruiz” and “Cleo Diaz, Analyst, Ben Ito” gives a three-level chart.

Features

  • Six designs, each with its own cards, photo badges and lines: Classic, Corporate, Bold (coloured headers), Soft (pastel, curved lines), Minimal and Midnight (dark, glowing).
  • Five team colour palettes (Original, Ocean, Sunset, Forest, Mono), or your own colour for anyone.
  • Our own tidy-tree layout: top-down or left-to-right, no overlapping cards, any number of people at the top.
  • Compact mode stacks people without reports in a column, so wide teams stay readable.
  • Assistant positions beside their manager’s line, with a dashed card.
  • Drag and drop to change a manager (nobody can end up reporting to their own team); removing a manager moves their team up.
  • Fold teams, with a badge counting everyone hidden underneath, and a searchable list of everyone.
  • Build from CSV, rows pasted from spreadsheets, or an indented list; headers like Name, Job title, Manager, Team colour and Assistant are recognised.
  • Keyboard shortcuts and a touch toolbar, undo and redo up to 200 steps, pinch zoom and automatic saving on this device.
  • Save PNG (2× sharp, optional see-through background), SVG, PDF (A4, US Letter or fitted page) and CSV that reopens exactly.

Tips and good to know

  • Managers in a pasted list are matched by name, so spell them the same way each time. Two people with one name? Save a CSV here once: its ID columns keep them apart.
  • People whose manager isn’t in the list start at the top; drag them where they belong.
  • Photos are cut to a centred square, so head-and-shoulders pictures work best. They are left out of the CSV.
  • For a big company, fold each department and save the top levels, then one department at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Are the names and photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything you type and every photo you add stays in this browser on this device. The chart is drawn and saved on your device, and nothing is sent to us or anyone else.

Is it free? How many people can a chart have?

It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. A pasted list or file can hold up to 2,000 people; very large charts read best with teams folded.

Does it work on a phone, iPad or offline?

Yes. On touch screens use the button row and side panel: tap to select, double-tap to rename, drag a card to change a manager, pinch to zoom. Once open it works offline, except that PDF saving needs a download the first time.

How do I make an org chart from Excel?

Put names, job titles and each person’s manager in three columns. Copy those cells into “Build from a list or CSV” and press “Build chart from this text”. A CSV file works too.

What does “Assistant” do?

It places the person beside their manager’s connecting line instead of in the row of reports, the usual way to show executive assistants and advisers. Their card gets a dashed outline.

Do saved pictures and PDFs keep the design?

Yes. PNG, SVG and PDF come out exactly as on screen, Midnight’s dark background included (unless you tick “Transparent background”). Every design keeps names readable by darkening or lightening a team colour just enough.

Will my chart still be here next time?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device: it saves itself after each change, design included. Private windows and clearing browsing data remove it, so save a CSV of anything important.

Can I put the chart in PowerPoint, Word or Google Slides?

Yes. A PNG is simplest and comes out at twice screen size, sharp on slides. SVG keeps editable shapes and text in apps that support it.
