About this tool

Pages per Sheet, often called N-up, puts several pages of a PDF side by side on one sheet. Choose 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages per sheet, the paper size (A4, A3, US Letter, or a sheet that keeps your pages at full size), and the tool picks the arrangement and direction that print your pages largest. A live preview shows every sheet exactly as it will come out.

It is ideal for lecture slides and handouts, revision notes, proofs you want to check at a glance, long reports you need to print without wasting paper, and anyone whose printer driver has no pages-per-sheet option. Booklet mode puts the pages in folding order, two on each side of the paper, so after printing double-sided you fold the stack in half and it reads in the right order, like a zine, programme or order of service.

Your pages are placed as vector drawings, not pictures, so text stays crisp at any size and can still be selected. Margins, gaps between pages, page order and thin border lines are all yours to set. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded.

How to use Pages per Sheet (N-up)

  1. Tap “Choose a PDF” and pick your file. The first sheet appears in the preview.
  2. Under Layout, choose “Pages per sheet” and a number (2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16), or choose “Booklet”.
  3. Pick a sheet size and direction (“Best fit”, Portrait or Landscape) and the page order: “Across, then down” or “Down, then across”.
  4. Set the margin and gap in millimetres and, if you like, tick “Draw a thin line round each page”. Use “‹ Prev” and “Next ›” to check every sheet.
  5. Press “Make sheets”, then “Download PDF”.
Example

A 48-slide lecture at 6 per sheet on A4 becomes 8 sheets. “Best fit” picks landscape paper with 2 slides across and 3 down, the arrangement that prints wide slides biggest.

Features

  • 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16 pages per sheet, on A4, A3, US Letter or a sheet sized to your pages.
  • Best-fit direction picks portrait or landscape and the grid that prints your pages biggest.
  • Booklet (saddle-stitch) mode with blank pages added automatically to make a multiple of four.
  • Across-then-down or down-then-across order.
  • Adjustable margin and gap, and optional thin border lines round each page.
  • Pages that are turned sideways or a different size are fitted the right way up in their spot.
  • Vector output: no blurring, and text stays selectable.
  • Live preview of every sheet before you save; nothing is uploaded.

Tips and good to know

  • For booklets, print double-sided with “flip on short edge”. Try one sheet first, as printers differ.
  • An A4 booklet makes A5 pages. Choose A3 paper to keep A4-sized pages.
  • Form fields, comments and links sit on top of a page, so they don’t appear on the sheets. The tool warns you; run the file through Flatten PDF first to keep them.
  • The first page sets the layout. Pages of other shapes are scaled to fit their spot, centred.
  • At 9 or 16 per sheet, small text gets tiny. Set the margin and gap to 0 to win back some space.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The sheets are built in your browser on your own device, and the PDF is never sent anywhere.

Is it free? Any limits?

Yes, free with no sign-up and no watermark. There is no page limit; one PDF at a time.

Does it work on a phone or offline?

Yes, in Safari or Chrome on iPhone and Android. The page needs the internet to load, then the work runs on your phone.

Will the pages be blurry when shrunk?

No. Pages are placed as vector drawings rather than pictures, so text and lines stay sharp when you zoom in or print.

How do I print a booklet?

Choose Booklet, save, then print double-sided and flip on the short edge. Keep the sheets in order, fold the stack in half and staple along the fold.

Why are blank pages added to my booklet?

Each folded sheet holds four pages, so a booklet needs a multiple of four. Blank pages are added at the end to make up the number.
