About this tool

Create Fillable PDF Form turns a flat PDF — a form you typed in Word, a scanned application, a printed sign-up sheet — into one people can fill in on a screen. Open the PDF, pick a field type and drag on the page where the answer goes. Each field gets a name, a hint, a text size, a letter limit and a “required” mark if you want one.

Detect fields does the tedious part for you. It reads each page’s text and drawing and suggests a field wherever a form expects an answer: runs of underscores like “Name: ______”, empty drawn boxes, small squares and ☐ symbols for ticks, lines to write on, and labels such as “Email:” with nothing after them. Each suggestion is named after the words beside it, and you add or skip them one by one or all at once.

The fields are saved as a standard PDF form (AcroForm), the kind Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple Preview, Chrome, Edge and phone PDF apps fill in. Fields already in the PDF show in green, ready to move, rename, change or delete. Everything happens in your browser; the PDF is never uploaded.

How to use Create Fillable PDF Form

  1. Tap “Choose a PDF” and pick the document. Any fields it already has appear in green.
  2. Press “Detect fields” to get suggestions, then tap ✓ to add the ones you want, or “Add all”.
  3. To add a field by hand, pick its type in the toolbar (Text box, Tick box, Drop-down…) and drag on the page, or just click to drop one.
  4. Click a field to name it and set its options in the Field panel. Shift-click several to line them up or make them the same size.
  5. Open “All fields” to check the tab order, then press “Save fillable PDF” and “Download fillable PDF”.
Example

A two-page club membership form typed in Word: Detect fields finds 14 blanks (name, email, address box, date line and four tick boxes). Add them all, change “Membership type” into a drop-down with three choices, save, and the result line reads “Checked: all 14 fields read back from the saved file”.

Features

  • Eight field types: text box, multi-line text, date (with Acrobat’s date-format check), tick box, radio button group, drop-down (optionally with your own answer), list of choices (optionally several), and a real signature field.
  • Detect fields: suggestions from underscores, dotted lines, empty boxes, drawn lines, ☐ symbols and labels ending in a colon, named after nearby words.
  • Move, resize, duplicate and delete with the mouse, a finger or the keyboard; arrow keys nudge by one point, Shift+arrow by ten.
  • Line up several fields by their edges or centres, give them the same width, height or size, or space them evenly.
  • A tab order list you can drag, sort by position, or change with the arrow buttons.
  • Edits the fields a PDF already has, and leaves untouched ones exactly as they were.
  • Undo and redo, page thumbnails and zoom.

Tips and good to know

  • For a set of answers where only one may be picked, use radio buttons: place the first, then press “Add another button to this group” for each other answer.
  • Pick “No border” in the action bar when the page already prints its own boxes or lines, so the fields don’t draw a second outline.
  • Detect fields needs real text and drawing. A scan is only a picture of the page: draw those fields by hand.
  • A signature box is a proper signature field. Acrobat Reader lets people sign it; Preview and browsers show the box and its line. To sign it yourself now, save and carry the form on to Sign PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing about it, or the fields you add, is sent to AroraTools or anyone else.

Is it free? Are there limits?

Yes, it is free with no sign-up and no watermark, and there is no limit on pages or fields.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and offline?

Yes. On a phone, pick a field type, tap the page to drop a field, drag it with your finger and set it up in the panel under the page. The page needs the internet to load; then the work happens on your phone.

Will the form work in Adobe Acrobat Reader and Preview?

Yes. The fields are standard PDF form fields, the same kind Acrobat makes, so Acrobat Reader, Apple Preview, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and most phone PDF apps can fill them in and save the answers.

How does Detect fields decide where the blanks are?

It looks for the marks a printed form uses for answers: runs of underscores or dots, empty rectangles, small squares or ☐ symbols for ticks, lines with nothing written on them, and labels ending in a colon with empty space after them. These are suggestions only; nothing is added until you accept it.

Can I change a PDF that already has form fields?

Yes. Existing fields are listed and shown in green. You can move, resize, rename, change their rules or delete them, and add new fields next to them. Fields you don’t touch are saved exactly as they were.

What is the tab order?

It is the order the Tab key moves through the form. The “All fields” tab lists every field in that order; drag a row, use its arrows, or press “Sort by position on the page” for top-to-bottom, left-to-right.
