Screen recorder

What this asks for, and why. To record, your browser has to share a screen, window or tab with this page. When you press Start recording, your browser shows its own picker and you choose what to share. The microphone is used only if you tick voice-over. Everything stays on this device: nothing is uploaded, and recording stops when you press Stop, use the browser’s “Stop sharing” button, or close the page.

Sound

Chrome and Edge can record a browser tab’s sound; recording the whole computer’s sound depends on your system (it works on Windows and ChromeOS). Firefox and Safari record the picture only. The microphone is used only when voice-over is ticked.

Your recordings

Kept only in this tab’s memory: they are gone when you close or reload the page, so download the ones you want.

About this tool

Screen Recorder captures your whole screen, a single window or one browser tab and saves it as a video file, with no extension, app or account. It is made for quick how-to videos, bug reports, recording a presentation or a video call you are allowed to keep, and walking someone through a website.

To record, the page needs your permission to see what you choose to share, and it explains that before asking. When you press Start recording, your browser opens its own picker and you decide exactly what to share. The microphone is only used if you tick voice-over. The video is recorded by your browser on your device: nothing is uploaded, and recording stops when you press Stop, use the browser’s own “Stop sharing” button, or close the page. The camera is never used.

You get a countdown to switch windows, pause and resume, a live preview with a REC badge, a running clock and file size, and a choice of quality and frame rate. When you stop, the file is re-packed without re-encoding so players show its length and can skip through it. Phones and tablets are the exception: their browsers do not allow websites to record the screen, so the page points you to the phone’s built-in recorder.

How to use Screen Recorder

  1. Under “Recording settings”, pick where the picker starts, the file type, quality, frame rate and countdown.
  2. Leave “Record sound from the tab or computer” ticked if you want sound, and tick voice-over to add your microphone.
  3. Press “Start recording”, choose a screen, window or tab in your browser’s picker, and press Share.
  4. Wait for the countdown, then do your thing. Use “Pause” and “Resume” as needed.
  5. Press “Stop recording” (or your browser’s “Stop sharing”), check the video under “Your recordings”, and press “Download”.
Example

Showing a colleague how to file an expense claim? Choose “A browser tab”, tick voice-over, start recording, pick the expenses tab and talk them through it. Press Stop, check the preview and download one video with your voice and the page’s sound together.

Features

  • Records the whole screen, one window or one browser tab, chosen in your browser’s own picker.
  • Tab sound in Chrome and Edge, and the whole computer’s sound where the system allows it.
  • Optional voice-over from your microphone, with a live level bar, mixed with the tab sound into one track that every player plays.
  • MP4 when your browser can record it (current Chrome, Edge and Safari), otherwise WebM, with a plain note saying which you will get.
  • Three quality levels scaled to the size of what you share, and 30 or 60 frames per second.
  • A countdown of 3, 5 or 10 seconds, pause and resume, a running clock and file size.
  • Stopping from the browser’s own “Stop sharing” bar keeps the recording.
  • Finished files are re-packed without re-encoding, so the length shows and skipping works in common players.
  • Several recordings per visit, each with a preview, a name for the file, download and a two-press delete.

Tips and good to know

  • Recording a single tab is the tidiest choice: notifications, other windows and your desktop stay out of the video, and tab sound works in Chrome and Edge.
  • Use headphones with voice-over, or the tab sound will be picked up a second time by the microphone.
  • Text looks sharpest at High or Best quality. Choose 60 fps only for games or fast scrolling; it makes bigger files.
  • Long recordings are held in memory until you download them. For anything over an hour, download as soon as you stop.
  • Need a smaller file or an MP4 from Firefox? Open the recording in Compress Video; to cut the start or end, use Trim Video.

Frequently asked questions

Is my screen recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser records the screen on your device and the video stays in this tab’s memory until you download it. Nothing is sent to AroraTools or anyone else, and recording stops when you press Stop or close the page.

What permissions does it ask for?

Your browser asks which screen, window or tab to share when you press Start recording. The microphone is requested only if you tick voice-over. The camera is never used: our site tells browsers to block it on every page.

Is it free? Is there a time limit or watermark?

It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no time limit set by the tool. Recordings are kept in memory, so very long ones are limited by your computer’s memory.

Does it work on iPhone, Android or offline?

Phone and tablet browsers, including Safari on iPhone and iPad, don’t let websites record the screen, so use the built-in recorder there. On a computer it works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Will I get an MP4 or a WebM file?

MP4 when your browser can record it, which current Chrome, Edge and Safari can. Firefox records WebM only; it plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and VLC, and Compress Video can turn it into an MP4.

Why is there no sound in my recording?

Sound is only recorded if it is shared: in Chrome and Edge, switch on the audio option in the browser’s picker before pressing Share. Firefox and Safari record the picture only, so use voice-over there if you want to talk over it.
