About this tool
Screenshot Annotator is for the moment you need to show someone where to click. Paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V or ⌘V, or drop one in, then draw arrows, boxes, circles and lines, write labels, add numbered step badges that count up on their own, and colour over a line with a see-through highlighter. It suits support replies, bug reports and how-to guides.
It also covers the private parts. Blur and Pixelate replace the pixels inside a box in the saved file, not just on screen, so an email address or account number can’t be read back out. Spotlight darkens everything except the box you draw, and Crop trims the picture to the part that matters.
How it differs from our other tools: Add Text to Image is for captions, memes and styled lettering on photos, and Blur & Pixelate Image is a dedicated hider with a brush and a background blur. This tool puts all the markup a screenshot needs in one place, with every mark still movable, resizable and undoable until you save. Nothing is uploaded: the picture is drawn by your own browser.
How to use Screenshot Annotator
- Paste a screenshot (Ctrl+V or ⌘V), drop it on the box, or press “Choose a screenshot”.
- Pick a tool from the bar (Arrow is ready to go) and drag on the picture. Choose a colour and a size (S, M, L or XL) first, or change them afterwards.
- Use Numbered step and tap where each step happens; Text to type a label, with or without a background pill; Blur, Pixelate or Spotlight to drag a box over an area.
- Press Select (V), then tap any mark to move it, pull its handles to resize it, or drag the dot in the middle of an arrow to bend it. Delete removes it; Undo and Redo go back and forth.
- Pick PNG, JPG or WebP and press “Save image”, then “Download picture”. Or press Copy to paste the result straight into a chat or email.
A 1170 × 2532 iPhone screenshot of a settings screen: three numbered steps, one curved arrow, the email address pixelated and the top half cropped away. Saved as PNG at 1170 × 1300, with every pixel of the email replaced.

Tips and good to know
- Press ? (or the Keys button) to see every shortcut. Letters pick tools: A arrow, R rectangle, T text, N step, B blur, S spotlight, C crop, V select.
- Hold Shift while drawing to keep lines and arrows at 45° steps, and rectangles and ellipses perfectly square or round.
- For passwords, codes and account numbers, use Pixelate or Blur with Strength above halfway and cover a little more than the text itself.
- PNG keeps text crisp and suits most screenshots; JPG is smaller when the screenshot is mostly a photo.
Frequently asked questions
Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?
No. The screenshot is opened, marked up and saved by your browser on your own device. It is never sent to AroraTools or anyone else, which matters when it shows private messages, dashboards or code.
Is it free, and are there limits?
It is free, with no account and no watermark, and no limit on marks or screenshots. You work on one screenshot at a time.
Can someone undo the blur and read what I hid?
Not from the saved file. Blur and Pixelate first average each block of pixels into one colour, so the fine detail is gone, and only that result is saved.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Pick a screenshot from your photos and draw with your finger. Shortcuts need a keyboard, but every action also has a button.
How do I make a curved arrow?
Tick Curved before drawing to get a gentle bend, or draw a straight arrow, press Select and drag the round handle in its middle. Drag it back near the straight line to make it straight again.
How do the numbered steps work?
Choose Numbered step and tap the picture: the first badge is 1, the next is 2, and so on. If you delete one, press Renumber to count them again in the order you added them. Size and colour change like any other mark.
Can I copy the result instead of downloading it?
Yes. Press Copy (or Ctrl+Shift+C / ⇧⌘C) and paste it into Slack, Teams, an email or a document. A few older browsers don’t let web pages copy pictures; the tool says so, and Save image still works.
