About this tool
Signature Maker gives you a digital copy of your signature with a see-through background, ready to drop onto a contract, a letter in Word or Google Docs, an email footer or a PDF. There are three ways in. Draw it with a finger, mouse or stylus on a pad that behaves like a pen: the line thins when you move quickly and follows a stylus’s pressure. Type your name and pick one of five handwriting fonts, with size, slant, a heavier pen and an underline flourish. Or take a photo of the signature you wrote on paper.
The photo clean-up is the clever part. Phone pictures of paper are never evenly lit, so the tool measures the paper’s brightness area by area rather than using one cut-off, lifts away grey paper and shadows, removes specks of dust, and leaves only the ink. You can keep the pen’s real colour or switch it to black or blue.
Whichever way you make it, the result is trimmed to the ink, given the margin you choose and saved at 1×, 2× or 3× size. Drawn signatures can also be saved as SVG, which stays sharp at any size. Everything happens in your browser: your signature is never uploaded.
How to use Signature Maker
- Choose “Draw”, “Type” or “Photo” at the top.
- Draw: sign in the white box, set “Pen thickness”, and use “Undo” or “Clear” to try again. Type: enter your name and tap a style. Photo: press “Choose a photo” and pick a picture of your signature on plain paper.
- Pick the ink: black, blue, dark blue or your own colour. For a photo, tick “Keep the photo’s own ink colour” to leave it as written.
- Under “Your signature”, choose a size and how much “Space around” it you want. Tap the small circles to check it on checks, white or a dark background.
- Press “Download PNG”, “Copy image” or “Download SVG”, or press “Use in Sign PDF” to sign a document straight away.
A photo of a signature on slightly grey paper, with a shadow along one edge, comes out as just the blue ink on a transparent background, cropped tight. At 2× with small spacing it is about 700 pixels wide: the right size for an email footer or a Word letter.
Features
- Three ways to make it: draw, type in a handwriting font, or clean up a photo of your real signature.
- Natural pen strokes: smoothed curves that thin when drawn fast, with stylus pressure on tablets.
- Five handwriting fonts with size, slant, heavier pen (where the font allows) and a tapered underline flourish.
- Photo clean-up that copes with uneven light: paper removal, edge softness and speck removal sliders.
- Ink in black, blue, dark blue or any colour, or the photo’s own ink colour.
- Always trimmed to the ink, with no, small, medium or large spacing around it.
- PNG at 1×, 2× or 3× size, SVG for drawn signatures, and copy straight to the clipboard.
- One tap to keep it in Sign PDF’s saved signatures on this device and open Sign PDF.
Tips and good to know
- Drawing with a mouse is hard. On a phone or tablet, use your finger or a stylus and turn the device sideways for a wider pad.
- For the photo, use a dark pen on plain white paper, shoot straight on in daylight, and keep your shadow off the page.
- Use 2× for documents and emails: it stays crisp on sharp screens without making the file big. 3× is best for print.
- If thin parts of a photographed signature break up, lower “Paper removal”. If grey patches remain, raise it.
Frequently asked questions
Is my signature uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. It is drawn, typed or cleaned up by your own browser on this page and never sent to a server. It is only kept on this device if you press “Use in Sign PDF”, which saves it in this browser’s storage for Sign PDF.
Is it free, and are there limits?
It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many signatures you make or download.
Does it work on a phone, and offline?
Yes. Signing with a finger on a phone works well, and photos straight from the camera, including iPhone HEIC pictures, can be cleaned up. Once the page has loaded it works without a connection.
Why does the PNG have a checked background in the preview?
The checks show the parts that are see-through. In the downloaded file those areas are transparent, so the signature sits on whatever is behind it: a white page, a coloured letterhead or a PDF.
Can I get my typed signature as an SVG?
SVG is offered for drawn signatures, because they are made of real pen strokes. A typed signature depends on a font your other apps may not have, so it is saved as a high-resolution PNG instead. Choose 3× for the sharpest result.
Is an image of my signature legally binding?
In many countries a typed or pictured signature on an ordinary agreement is accepted when both sides intend it as a signature, but rules differ by country and document. Wills, deeds and some official forms often need a wet ink or certified electronic signature.
